Kerbl Calf Scour 4-in-1 Rapid Test Kit

Stop guessing and take immediate, targeted control of calf diarrhea outbreaks in your maternity pens. Calf scours remain the single biggest killer of calves under one month old, caused by a complex mix of viral, bacterial, and protozoal pathogens. The Kerbl Calf Scour Test Kit provides veterinarians and farm managers with a fast, reliable, on-farm diagnostic tool to identify the exact root cause of an infection in just 10 minutes.

Description

Detects the Big 4 Scour Pathogens Simultaneously

Mixed co-infections are extremely common in farm conditions—a calf can easily harbor both a virus and a parasite at the same time. The Kerbl rapid lateral flow cassette tests a single fecal sample against all four primary economic scour agents concurrently:

  1. Rotavirus (Most common viral cause of scours in 5–14 day old calves)

  2. Coronavirus (Severe viral damage targeting calves 7–21 days old)

  3. E. coli K99 (Hyper-acute bacterial scours affecting calves under 5 days old)

  4. Cryptosporidium parvum (Resilient protozoan parasite affecting calves 7–21 days old)

Key Technical Benefits & Features

  • 10-Minute Rapid Diagnostic Time: Clear lateral flow test lines appear in approximately 10 minutes, allowing you to treat the calf during the same pen visit.

  • Pinpoint Biosecurity Action: Knowing the exact pathogen lets you choose the correct disinfectant chemistry (e.g., deploying specialized anti-oocyst products for Cryptosporidium).

  • Zero Specialist Equipment Required: Comes as a self-contained, field-ready kit—no lab incubators, microscopes, or refrigeration needed.

  • Simple 3-Step Testing Procedure: Easy, foolproof extraction protocol designed for busy farm staff and field veterinarians.

  • Planning Security in Rearing: Helps you audit your colostrum protocols and maternity housing cleanliness by identifying systemic farm-wide pathogen patterns.

Step-by-Step Field Testing Protocol

1.Collect Sample:Use a clean swab or spatula to gather a small stool sample.

Collect a small sample of fresh diarrhea directly from the affected calf or clean bedding. Avoid mixing soil or wood shavings into the sample.

2.Mix with Reagent Fluid:Break down the sample in the buffer solution.

Insert the sample into the supplied reagent buffer tube. Cap tightly and shake vigorously for 15–30 seconds to fully suspend the pathogen particles in the diagnostic fluid.

3.Apply to Test Cassette:Dispense drops onto the cassette wells.

Place the test cassette flat on a clean surface. Squeeze 3 to 4 drops of the mixed reagent fluid into each sample well on the test strip.

4.Interpret Results:Read lateral flow lines after 10 minutes.

Wait 10 minutes. Read the control (C) and test (T) bands for Rotavirus, Coronavirus, E. coli, and Cryptosporidium to determine single or mixed infection profiles.
