Tube Ventilation for Cattle Sheds and Calf Barns
Poor air quality and heat stress greatly affects cattle comfort, behaviour and productivity. Although heat stress is commonly associated with hot or humid climates, cattle may begin to show signs of heat stress at temperatures of approximately 20°C.
Ultimately, Cowsy Breeze tube ventilation can be designed for a range of agricultural buildings, including:
- Dairy cow housing
- Calf barns and calf-rearing buildings
- Beef cattle sheds
- Milking and collecting areas
- Other livestock buildings requiring targeted airflow
By distributing fresh air throughout the building, Cowsy Breeze helps to reduce heat stress and support a healthier, more comfortable environment.
Supporting Cow Comfort and Productivity
Cows need access to fresh air to rest comfortably and reach their full potential. When air quality is poor or temperatures are too high, cows may spend more time standing and less time lying down and ruminating.
Furthermore, providing consistent ventilation can encourage more comfortable resting behaviour and help support animal welfare, feed intake and milk production.
How Positive Pressure Tube Ventilation Works
Cowsy Breeze uses a fan to introduce fresh air into a specially designed ventilation tube. The air is distributed through precisely positioned holes along the tube, helping to deliver a consistent airflow throughout the building.
The size and position of each opening are calculated to suit individual requirements. This allows fresh air to reach the areas where it is needed, helping to avoid poorly ventilated spaces and ensuring that cattle throughout the building benefit from the system.
Consistent Airflow
Traditional fans can create a strong stream of air in one area while leaving other parts of the building with limited ventilation. Positive pressure tube ventilation distributes air more evenly, consequently creating a continuous breeze across the targeted areas.
A single fan can support a tube of up to 70 metres, depending on the building and system design. Moreover, this can reduce the need for numerous conventional fans and provide a more energy- and cost-efficient ventilation solution.
System Design, Sizing and Installation
Every Cowsy Breeze system is custom-designed to suit the individual cattle shed or calf barn. Before recommending a system, our team considers:
- The building’s length, width and height
- The internal layout and areas requiring ventilation
- The number, type and age of the animals housed
- The position and availability of fresh-air inlets
- The required fan capacity and airflow
- The tube’s length, diameter and position
- The design and placement of the air-distribution openings
- Seasonal temperatures and ventilation requirements
These details allow the fan and ventilation tube to be specified correctly, helping to achieve consistent air distribution throughout the targeted areas.
Our team can support you through the design, sizing and installation process to create a cattle shed ventilation system suited to your building and livestock.
